Experience

My Experience:

I really enjoyed teaching several dozen students for 6 months full-time on my gap year. Helping students truly understand something they have never quite fully grasped before is so satisfying, and that's why I love tutoring. Every student I've tutored regularly has seen their performance in school and/or exams improve. In several cases, students have exceeded their predicted exam grades by three or more grades, which I've found immensely gratifying.

My Approach:

I always like to start by getting to know what your specific needs are - what you find easy, what you find difficult, which subjects and topics you enjoy and which ones you don't. I like to know your goals and why you are looking for tutoring, and which exam boards you’ll be sitting (if relevant). All of this helps me to adjust and tailor the content, level, and pace to your specific needs and ambitions.

I am very enthusiastic about all sciences, and I bring that with me into the sessions. Each student is unique, so every lesson is different. I always try my best to keep the student engaged, and lead them to the answers by asking questions and problem-solving together, building understanding from first principles. I notice many of my students value the analogies and diagrams I use to explain key points, and how I use real-life examples to keep the material relevant and engaging.

I keep the content close to the exam-board specification, and use my understanding of the specification, past-papers, and mark schemes to prepare exam-style problems to solve. If the student needs and has the time, I prepare short ‘homework’ tasks to help consolidate the lesson material, but I don’t want to unnecessarily burden the student. My goal is to provide encouragement and motivation for the subject to make our lessons as enjoyable as possible and create the best atmosphere for learning and improving.

About

Having graduated from Oxford with a BA in Cell and Systems Biology, I will be starting a Master's (MRes) in Experimental and Translational Immunology at UCL this September. I hope to subsequently complete a PhD in cancer immunology.

Beyond academics, I love travelling and enjoyed my travels around Southeast Asia with friends on my gap year, which I funded through tutoring. I am also passionate about fitness: I swim and cycle regularly, and am a keen skier.
